A few years ago I was interviewed by my niece, Megan, who was just about to graduate with a First in psychology and was working as my research assistant before a TV company stole her away from me. Just the other day someone sent me a lovely comment about the video, which they’d seen on YouTube, so I had a look to remind myself and, unusually for me, I’m still pretty happy with it.

I’ve added it here for you. You even get to see footage of me gardening, cooking and RUNNING! (If you’d rather watch on YouTube, it’s here.)

Do share it with anyone in your life who might benefit. It’s only 12 minutes long and would work really well in a PSHE class or tutor time. If you do that, I’d love to hear the students’ questions and I’ll do my best to answer.

There’s one thing I’d like to say more about:

An example I give for ways I might relax is going online to chat to a friend. And yes, that’s true but what I don’t think is a healthy idea is to go online too much or to go online when in fact it is making me more anxious/stressed/annoyed.

Here’s the point:

When we choose things to help us relax, we have to be honest and self-aware. We have to ask ourselves these questions:

  • How is this really making me feel? (Is it really relaxing and calming?)

  • If I do this for too long or too much, might there be a negative result? (Might I feel bad afterwards?)

  • Is there something else I could do which would be a better choice? (Maybe I’ve already spent quite a bit of time online and it would be better to have a bath or a walk or do some yoga?)

Would your students like to interview me?

It’s the 20 year anniversary of Blame My Brain this year and I thought it would be fun and interesting for some young people to interview me about the ideas in it. We can do it online or they can send me questions by email and I can video myself answering.

Do get in touch and we can discuss options. First come first served!

Meanwhile, do share the video in any way you like. I’m here for you and your young people. (BTW my Instagram is now NicolaMorgansBrain. Join me there for a random mix of mental health, gardening and cooking.)
