Some of you have been waiting for this while others had no idea it was coming. Let me explain!
A couple of weeks ago, I was supposed to do a live online 15-minute slot for the Association of Children’s and Education Librarians (ASCEL) conference. Sadly (and stressfully) technology let us down. So I said I would create a video instead. But videos, even (or especially) short ones, take me a long time. And life lifed at me as it so often does. Thus, making the video slipped down the to-do list (especially since it was free!) But here it is and the advantage is that not only ASCEL people can see it. You ALL can.
It is pitched at any adult living or working with young people. No other special expertise required.
First, a note:
Because it’s short, it cannot explain things fully. But I include lots of ways to get more info on anything that you want. And you can ask me questions. Or invite me to speak at greater length, for a fee. I’m doing many fewer events than I used to as I’m trying to write (not succeeding yet…) but I can be persuaded out of my bunker.
And there are links to handouts below the video, including a copy of the PowerPoint.
Here’s the video:
(It’s not professionally edited but it’s free so don’t complain!)
And here are the handouts:

The “ExpectBenefit” handout I talked about:

I mentioned stimulus generalisation:

IMMENSELY IMPORTANT WARNING:
I hope that has given you food for thought. We need our guard dogs under control so that we can have good, healthy, exciting lives. And reading for pleasure is one brilliant way to help it happen!
Thank you, ASCEL people. I hope this was worth the wait!
