I’m setting off soon on an exciting trip to the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival. It will be hot, hot, hot! I’ve been preparing hard, as I always do. With a trip like this, you have to find a balance between over-preparing (which can be a problem if you get an audience which isn’t quite what you expected) and under-preparing (which I would never do because it’s disrespectful). I want everyone who hears me to learn things that will make them stronger, healthier and more resilient. And happier.
IMPORTANT: If you might see me in Sharjah, read to nearly the end of this article as there is a SPECIAL THING FOR YOU…
Resources for audiences
I’ve prepared a huge bundle of extras but it’s not always easy to know how best to share them directly with the audience, as I’m not in direct touch with most of them. So I’ve decided to put them here.
You are welcome to access them even if you live in the UK or Greenland, rather than under the 40º temperatures of a molten desert sky!
Handouts
Folder of resources
HERE IS A LINK to the huge folder of resources on my Google Drive. Once you open the compressed folder, you’ll see everything in all its wondrousness. I hope! I realise not everyone can access this so I am adding a Dropbox folder to my website after my talk on the morning of Sunday April 27th - www.nicolamorgan.com —> blog —> April 27th post. (Be patient - it may be a couple of hours before I get to do this!)
You’ll find separate folders according to topic and within those you’ll see some things labelled specifically for students. Everything else is pitched more at adults, the teachers or other professionals and parents. You can use it in any way you like as long as you don’t sell it, alter it or remove my name.
The Powerpoint (pdf version)
This is from the talk and Q&A for teachers and parents. It will only make sense if you were there! And it also contains lots of EXTRA slides that will be hidden during the presentation.
Two videos
Finally, here are two videos that I couldn’t include with everything else, because they are bigger than my USB sticks and too big for my website.
Nicola Morgan Talks Teenage Wellbeing - in which I am interviewed by my wonderful niece
My introduction to Be Resilient, from the online launch for that book. Be Resilient will be available at the Sharjah book fair. And I will have some postcards to give away with resilience tips on. (I have a LOT of postcards and I need to get rid of them all so that I have room for some dates and baklava in my return suitcase.)
A word of thanks
I am so grateful to the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival for inviting me and making me feel very wanted. I can’t wait to meet the organisers, the various audiences of young people, their teachers and parents, as well as other speakers who will be as passionate about literacy, reading, thinking and writing as I am.
If you meet me out there, please come and say hello. I would love to hear your questions or your thoughts. Or just say hello!
NOTE: If you come up to me and say “I just want to say hello to Nicola Morgan’s Brain” I will write a special message on a postcard for you. AND, I plan to bring four books with me to give away so if I happen to have one with me when you speak to me, you can have it!
Here is me at the same festival ten years ago:
I am looking forward very much to the hotel towel art - a different animal each day!
Now, I just need to go and find my suncream and dig out some summer clothes…
Thankyou Nicola
Have a wonderful trip !
